About Voyageur Canoe Outfitters Staff

Voyageur Canoe Outfitters hires 8 to 10 seasonal employees each year.

For your information:
We look for a few outgoing, happy-go-lucky, energetic, hard working people for a summer of intense, but fun, work. Our crew sacrifices television and the majority of entertainment for the summer for a great back yard (the wilderness). Work includes cleaning gear, packing, transporting, cooking, housekeeping, and washing canoes.

What we're about...

We are Mike and Sue Prom owners and operators of Voyageur Canoe Outfitters. Our love of nature brought us to the end of the Gunflint Trail. We live happily here year round with our daughter Abby and son Josh. We have a great backyard that we try to play in as often as possible. We enjoy outdoor activities such as; canoeing, fishing, hiking, biking, exploring, swimming, hunting, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and anything else outside.
We both share the same desire to own and operate our own business. We are very hardworking individuals and receive a lot of satisfaction from our hard work. We enjoy interacting with people and especially love introducing people to canoe camping in the wilderness. We strive to offer exceptional customer service because this is what we want when we are vacationing. We direct all of our attention to our guests, because if they weren't here, we wouldn't be either.

What we expect from you...

We need each of our crew members commitment to excellent service. We will help train you in what we expect from you this summer. Generally speaking, you need to be friendly, outgoing, helpful, cooperative, cheerful and willing to go the extra mile. We always need to work as a team toward a common goal.

What you can expect from us...

We will provide you with proper training and a good work environment throughout the summer. We will instruct you how to perform your tasks and duties so you will know how to do your job. We will provide good working conditions and recognition for a job well done. We will respect your ideas and be open to communication with you.

Organizational Structure...
Mike and Sue are the owners of the business and will be the "bosses" for your summer employment. We have an open door to listen to any problems or concerns you may have throughout the summer.

Work Schedules...

Our hours of operation are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days a week. We are also open earlier or later as needed by our guests. You will be expected to report to work each day at 6:45 AM for breakfast and meeting. The hours you will work each day will depend upon the things we need to get done each day. You will have one day off each week, which will be posted on the weekly schedule at our earliest convenience. This is similar to a camp setting where you may be asked to perform certain duties after the normal hours of business. Meals are provided free of charge 3 times a day at approximate times in the dining room. Breakfast is served promptly at 6:45 AM, lunch is between 11:00-12:30, dinner is between 5:00-7:00.

Compensation/Benefits..

Each crew member is given one day off each week. You are allowed to use all of Voyageur Canoe Outfitters' equipment free of charge but permission should be granted prior to your use. A bonus of $100.00 will be given if you stay the entire duration of your contract. Other bonuses may be given based on your performance throughout the summer. Food and housing is provided for the duration of your employment. Employees also will get specified discounts in the Trading Post, 40% off of most items and 30% off of tackle and rods. Salary is dependent on your experience, length of employment, and the job you are hired for. Call or write for details.

Housing...
Housing is provided free of charge to our crew members. Your room will be shared by a minimum of 1 other person and will be a basic form of housing. You will use the bath and shower house that our guests use and will be responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of your areas. All personal belongings should be kept in your room. Parking of your vehicle will be in an assigned space
